Since 2006 Buz has penned a weekly column in The Walton Sun offering financial advice and commentary. He also worked as freelance columnist with the Motley Fool. He is a proud University of Georgia graduate (BS in Agriculture,1978) and passed the distinctive CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNER™ examination in 2003. Buz holds a Certificate in Financial Planning from the College for Financial Planning. He is a Registered Investment Advisor in both Florida and Georgia.
Buz has served his community as Board Member, President and Family Selection Chair, Habitat for Humanity, Walton County. Currently he is on the South Walton Community Council’s Board of Directors and supports the Cultural Arts Association. Previously he volunteered with The Seaside Repertory Theater, South Walton Turtle Watch and South Walton Fire District’s Pension Board.
For years he pondered how many kayaks a man should own. Now he knows…enough for his grandchildren. Currently he agitates for well-maintained bicycle paths around South Walton and supports South Walton’s magical music scene.
Jim Livingston’s journey into Financial Planning comes after spending over 2 decades working as a Strategic Consultant for many of the largest Wealth & Asset Managers across the globe. This included advising & implementing technology systems and operational processes for Investment Management, Product Sales & Distribution, Accounting & Operations, and Data Strategy teams. It was an exciting and fast-paced world, and Jim is forever grateful for the fantastic people he worked with, and the opportunities that his old career provided.
Jim’s decision to become a Financial Planner is driven by a strong desire to help families & individuals better understand and bring peace to their overall financial world… both where it is now and where it is going in the future. That, and he’d be lying if he didn’t say that he is really excited to work with Buz.
Like his father, Jim is also a proud University of Georgia graduate (BBA in Management Information Systems, 2003). He’s also currently enrolled at UGA’s Terry College of Business Certified Financial Planning educational program. He is an Investment Advisor Representative in both Florida and Georgia.
In his free time, you can probably find Jim exercising, playing with his adorable dog Freddie, or travelling somewhere to see any kind of live music (which he genuinely believes might be the best thing you can do for your soul). He’s looking forward to working with you!
